complete image area. This way structures inside the object will become visible, which
otherwise may be too dark .
6.12.2 Automatic Gain Control (AGC)
Whenever the shutter has reached the limit of 1/50s and/or the f-stop of the AI-lens is
fully open, automatic gain control will adjust the gain factor of the camera according
to the brightness of the scene.
If the option ’0dB’ has been selected, automatic gain control is switched off. At a set-
ting of ’+6dB’ the gain is fixed to a value of +6dB.
High gain values will also amplify noise components of the video signal, which, in
combination with the subsequent coding of the video signal, will adversely affect the
quality of the decoded video signal. High gain values can be caused my manual set-
ting as well as during automatic gain control operation. Improving scene illumination
and/or using lenses with smaller f-stop vales will alleviate the problem.
Only for special applications the option ’data clear’ should be selected. In this case all
objects in the scene will appear outlined, eventually enhancing the detection of motion
in the scene.
6.12.3 Automatic White Balance (AWB)
Automatic white balance adapts color rendition to the color temperature of the light
source which is used to illuminate the scene. The ’auto’-mode is selected by default,
causing changes in the color temperature to be automatically corrected.
If the color temperature of the light source is known, a fixed value of 3000 K, 5600 K,
or 4500 K can be selected.
For special light sources such as fluorescent or metal vapor lamps, it makes sense to
select a fixed white balance setting. This is also required, if a certain color hue domi-
nates the scene. For best picture quality, the white balance setting can be carried out
manually by the following procedure:
Manual white balance setting:
•
Select ’auto’ mode
•
place a white sheet of paper in front of the lens for at least 10 seconds
•
press the ’Freeze’ button
The current value will be stored and also kept after a power cycle. If the color temper-
