•
Check the phone number entered. Private branch exchanges (PBX) with exten-
sions normally require a reference number to get a dial tone. In most cases, this
is the digit zero ‘0’.
•
Automatic D-channel protocol detection might not function properly with certain
(bilingual) PBXs. Find out which D-channel protocol is being used and disable au-
tomatic protocol detection by setting NetCam directly to the correct protocol used.
•
Some PBXs require the enabling of data services. Ask the technician who config-
ured the S
0
-outlet of the telephone system.
•
If several ISDN terminals are connected to the same S
0
-bus, remove all other
equipment and try again.
No connection using an external modem:
If the modem connection fails, the following procedure will guide you through all rele-
vant modem configuration items. The AT-commands given in parentheses reflect the
correct setting for most of the popular modems. Consult your modem reference guide
in order to confirm the AT-commands for the particular type of modem you are using.
•
Enable RTS/CTS hardware handshake (AT&H and AT&R).
•
The modem should disconnect, whenever the DTR line is deasserted by NetCam
(AT&D2).
•
The DCD-line follows the carrier detect status (AT&C1).
•
Disable automatic answering of incoming calls (ATS0=0).
•
Asynchronous data transmission between modem and NetCam has to be set to a
fixed value, independent from the telephone line speed. For modern modem em-
ploying data compression and automatic baudrate adaptation this is almost al-
ways the case.
•
Usually the modem sends status information in plain text and not as binary data.
NetCam relies on these text status messages in order to determine modem status.
This is the most common factory default (ATV1).
Most modem factory settings are already correct for operation with NetCam. Use
(AT&F) in order to reset the modem to factory settings if you are unsure with respect
to current parameters selected.
Use a terminal program such as Telix, Telemate, Hyperterminal delivered with
Windows95, Terminal included in Windows 3.x, or a software included with your mo-
dem in order to modify configuration parameters. The same way actual modem pa-
rameters can be retrieved.
NetCam does not answer incoming calls:
•
Check, if the correct phone number has been dialed.
•
Check, if NetCam has been configured to the correct EAZ/MSN.
