V
840
Unequipped STS Payload. Indicates that an all-zeros pattern is being received from
Path terminating equipment. The C2 byte is used for this indicator. This is an alarm
LED.
UPI
The user payload identifier (UPI) is an 8-b field such that when PTI = 0, it identifies the
type of payload and mapping in the data frame, e.g., frame-mapped Ethernet (UPI=1),
frame-mapped PPP (UPI=2), transparent fibre channel (UPI=3), transparent FICON
(UPI=4), transparent ESCON (UPI=5), transparent Gigabit Ethernet (UPI=6), and frame-
mapped multiple access protocol over SDH (MAPOS) (UPI=8).
User Defined Pattern (32-bit value)
Users can specify a repeating 32-bit binary value to be configured as the transmitted
and expected received payload pattern. The pattern is entered using a keypad, and can
be entered in Hex, Decimal, or Binary format.
V
-V
Suffix indicating SONET Virtual Tributary Near End.
-VFE
Suffix indicating SONET Virtual Tributary Far End.
V5
Virtual Tributary Path Overhead byte.
VID
VLAN identifier. A 12-bit field specifying the
to which the frame belongs, allowing
up to unique 4,094 VLANs. The reserved value 0x000 indicates that the frame does not
carry a VLAN ID; in this case, the 802.1Q tag specifies only a priority (in PCP and DEI
fields) and is referred to as a priority tag. On bridges, VID 0x001 (the default VLAN ID)
is often reserved for a network management VLAN; this is vendor-specific. The VID
value 0xFFF (4095) is reserved for implementation use, and should not be configured or
transmitted.
