7.3 System Scan
Overview:
Within seconds, all analog and digital channels at the service location are measured. The function provides a graphical overview of the
entire channel plan according to the selected active channel table. It can provide fast visual confirmation or a snapshot of key analog and
digital TV channels or DOCSIS carrier levels.
As a rule of thumb, analog carriers should be no more than 6 to 10dB higher compared to digital channels. DOCSIS channel levels should
range between -10 to +10dBmV to allow for adequate margin at the cable modem.
The system scan can be done continuously to capture any signal level variations in time by tapping the CONTINUOUS icon. In continuous
scan mode, selecting MIN hold, MAX hold or MIN/MAX hold can be activated to record the highest and lowest signal level measured in
time.
Analog Scan
The following measurements are performed for each analog channel:
Video Power Level in dBmV/dBuV
Audio1 Power Level in dBmV/dBuV
V/A1 Ratio in dB
System Scan
Digital Scan
The following measurements will be performed for each digital channel:
QAM Power Level in dBmV
Once the test is completed or stopped by the user, a marker is available and can be placed on any of the measured channels. The
measurements of the selected channel(s) are then displayed.
The System Scan display screen is split to two sections; left: all channel view, right: zoom view of nearby channels of the channel on the
marker of the left screen.
7.4 Spectrum Analysis
Overview:
The spectrum analyzer, like an oscilloscope, is a basic tool used for observing signals. While an oscilloscope provides a window into the
time domain, the spectrum analyzer provides a window into the frequency domain. Spectrum analysis provides a convenient way to
measure the amplitude of digitally modulated carriers and to troubleshoot ingress in the forward and reverse paths.
The following measurements and capabilities are possible:
