by the system. They are not to be used as addresses for active Velbus
modules.
Example: the hexadecimal address 1A is the same as the decimal address 11,
they are only represented in a different way. The configuration software
Velbuslink can be configured to display addresses decimally or hexadecimally,
according to the user’s preference
(menu “View”)
.
All modules need to have an address set before being programmed. All recent
modules have their addresses set electronically using Velbuslink. (Some of the
first generation modules have a pair of rotary switches to be manually set on
the module itself.)
Most modules have one single address. Velbus glass touch panels (the VMBGP
series) have one to four addresses for the button functions (one address for
every 8 buttons), and an additional address for the thermostat function.
Addresses versus channels
Each
address
in Velbus is further subdivided in
channels
(max. 8 channels per
address). Channels correspond to individual buttons, relays, shutter channels
and so on.
Example: An 8-channel pushbutton interface module (the
VMB8PBU) will have one
address
(i.e. 02) and eight
channels
(CH1, CH2, …, CH8). Each of these channels corresponds to an
individual button. A specific button can thus be identified by the
address of the module and the channel in question, i.e. 02/CH3.
Channels can also be named (see “
You can operate a channel from within Velbuslink by right-clicking on the
channel (for instance a relay channel) and choosing“operate” from the drop
