• This product is not a toy, and should be kept out of the reach of children. Children

cannot assess the dangers arising from incorrect use of electrical devices. Be
especially careful if children are around.

• Only use in dry indoor locations. The product must be protected from damp and

wet, as there is a risk of a fatal electric shock! Never touch the product with wet
hands.

• Do not expose the product to extreme temperatures  (< 0°C or > +40°C), direct

bright sunlight, strong vibrations, high humidity or strong mechanical stress.

• Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. It may become danger-

Notes on batteries/rechargeable batteries

• Keep (rechargeable) batteries away from children; they are not toys.

• Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; they could be swallowed by chil-

dren or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.

• Leaking or damaged (rechargeable) batteries can cause burns, if they come into contact with

the skin. For this reason you should use suitable protective gloves.

• Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into a fire.

There is a risk of explosion!

• Conventional batteries must not be recharged. Danger of explosion! Only charge rechargeable

batteries that are intended for this purpose; use a suitable battery charger.

• Please observe the correct polarity (plus/+ and minus/-) when inserting rechargeable bat-

teries.

• Do not mix batteries or rechargeable batteries with different levels of charge.

• Never mix batteries with rechargeable batteries! Use either batteries or rechargeable bat-

teries.

• For the remote control, you may use rechargeable batteries, instead of standard batteries.

However, due to the lower voltage (rechargeable batteries = 1.2 V, batteries = 1.5 V) and the
lower capacity of rechargeable batteries, the operating time of the IR remote control is
reduced.

Installation of a Hard Disk

• Open the enclosure cover on the underside; to do this, remove the holding screw.

• Insert a 8.9cm/3.5“ SATA hard disk drive and then connect the SATA / power cable to the hard

disk drive.

• Replace the cover correctly and secure.

Inserting Batteries into the IR Remote Control, Changing
Batteries

Open the IR remote control’s battery compartment and insert two batteries of type AAA/micro,
with the correct polarity (pay attention to plus /+ and minus/-). Replace the cover on the battery
compartment.

The battery needs changing when the IR range reduces or the media player no longer responds
to the IR remote control.

Using for the First Time, Formatting the Hard Disk

• Connect the media player to your display device (TV set, monitor), use a suitable connecting

cable. Select the correct input on the TV or monitor.

• Connect the AC adaptor to the media player and then the AC adaptor to the mains supply.

• Switch on the media player. If no picture appears on the connected display, check that you

selected the correct input.

• When using a new hard disk for the first time, it must be partitioned and formatted and, of

course, the appropriate multimedia files must be stored via USB2.0.

The partitioning/formatting can be performed by either using the format function
available in the media player or via the PC. The media player recognises partitions
using the file systems FAT32, NTFS or ext3.

Formatting the hard disk will delete all the data on the hard disk! You should per-
form a data back-up first.

Connection to the Computer

• Connect the media player via the USB cable, enclosed, to a USB2.0 port on your computer.

For Windows ME/XP/Vista or Windows 7 a driver is not required, as it is already part
of the operating system.

• Windows recognises the new hardware and installs the drivers automatically.

While the media player is connected to a computer via USB2.0, all the other func-
tions are switched off. Thus, the media player operates in the same way as a con-
ventional hard disk enclosure.

• Afterwards, the hard disk in the media player can be used in the same way as other conven-

tional removable media.

• However, a new hard disk has to be partitioned and formatted before it is used.

For Windows XP it is very easy to do this via the computer administration (in the Control Panel,
click „Management“, then „Computer Management“, „Datastore“ and then „Disk Management“).
Select the correct hard disk from here, and create a new partition (file system NTFS). Allow the
system to format the hard drive (a quick formatting is sufficient, otherwise, the formatting proce-
dure takes a very long time!).

The procedure is quite similar with Windows Vista or Windows 7.
