Main Deck Belt Tension Adjustment
If the main deck belt slips during normal mowing
operation, the belt tension will need to be adjusted.
1. Park the power unit on a smooth level surface
and lower the mower deck to the ground.
2.
Engage the parking brake, shut off the engine,
and remove the key from the ignition switch.
3. Open the center deck cover.
4. Remove the ball pin from the main belt tension
handle and rotate the handle 180 degrees to
release the main deck belt tension.
5. Move the extension spring hook into the next
chain link closer to the main belt tension handle.

7. Close the center deck cover and secure with the
rubber handles.
Spindle Belt Tension Adjustment
The belt tension springs for the mid left spindle belt
and the right spindle belt can be adjusted by mov-
ing the spring arm to a different notch in the spring
tension bracket. Spring tension should be set at the
least amount of tension required for normal opera-
tion. If excessive belt slippage occurs in normal
operating conditions, increase the belt tension in
small increments until belt slippage is eliminated.
Deck Leveling Procedure
1. Place the mower deck on a hard surface that is
clean and level.
2. Set the mower deck cutting height to a position
that will allow access to the underside of the deck.
Ensure both the left and right height adjustment
handles are set to the same position.
3.
Ensure both front tires are inflated to the recom
-
mended tire pressure.
4. Block the tires and rear roller to prevent the mower
deck from rolling during leveling procedure.
5. Check the mower blades to make sure they are
not bent.
6. Starting at either side of the mower deck, turn
the blade so the cutting tip is at the back of the
deck. Measure the distance from the flat surface
to the blade tip.
7. Rotate the blade so the same tip is at the front
of the deck and measure again. The blade tip
should be level to 1/8” (3 mm) lower at the front.
If the measurement at the front is higher or more
than 1/8” (3 mm) lower than at the rear, the deck
must be leveled.
8. To adjust, loosen the right hand and left hand
jam nuts (A) on the connecting link and turn
the link clockwise or counterclockwise until the
correct measurement is reached. When adjust-
ments are complete, tighten both jam nuts
against the connecting link rod ends.

Repeat steps 6 through 8 for the opposite side
of the deck. Adjusting one side of the deck can
also affect the opposite side, so recheck both
sides of the deck after leveling is complete.
Tire Pressure
Tire pressure should be maintained between 8-10
psi (55-69 kPa). Pressure variance between the left
and right tires can cause an uneven cut.
