Mixer
The different volume controls of the mixer adjust the level relationship of the individual sound
sources. The functions of these controls are self-explanatory: The more you turn up a control, the
louder the corresponding signal. With the control turned fully to the left, the corresponding signal
will be inaudible.
VCO 1
,
VCO 2
,
SUB
5
and
SUB
3
set the levels of the oscillators and sub-oscillators.
NOISE
sets the level of the noise generator (white noise).
EXTERNAL
sets the level of an external audio signal being fed into the
INPUT
f
jack on the unit’s
rear.
The output level of the mixer will significantly influence the sonic character of the filter. For this
reason, we have equipped the ’14 Analogsynthesizer with a level display consisting of three LEDs in
yellow, green and red. These display the following states (top to bottom):
Figure 3: The Mixer's level display
-
LO
(yellow) - The output level of the mixer is too low. This decreases the signal-to-noise-ratio
of the whole instrument. With the yellow LED being lit, the specific volume controls should be
turned up higher.
-
OK
(green) - The output level of the mixer is ideal in technical terms. The filter offers enough
headroom for intense feedbacks. I.e. the
RESONANCE
control works sensitive and over a wide
range. The filter offers a clean sound.
-
HI
(red) - The output level of the mixer will saturate/distort the filter input. The resonance can
not unfold in full strength. The filter sounds more raw and aggressive.
