Introducing UPS Operations
Note
The periodic self-test should satisfy the conditions associated with the battery float charge for at least 5 hours,
without the generator connected to the unit, compared to the manual maintenance self-test that simply satisfies
the conditions of the fully charged battery.
6.5.1
How to initiate the battery self-test
While the manual maintenance self-test can be configured via the LCD, the periodic self-test can be configured
using the Vertiv Settings software. The battery self-test interval ranges from 30 days to 360 days (by default, the
range is set to 60 days).
6.5.2
Self-test start-up conditions
The following conditions must be satisfied in order to initiate the self-test:
•
System load rate is in the range from 20% to 100% and the output is stable.
•
Battery is in a fully charged state with the float charge of at least 5 hours and the generator disconnected.
•
Current system is in the float charge state.
6.5.3
Self-test completion conditions
The following conditions must be satisfied in order to complete the self-test:
•
Confirm that the system is not in the self-test state for at least 10 seconds.
•
It should also satisfy the following requisites:
It should be in battery mode; alternatively, the rectifier should be closed.
The system will switch to the battery supply state.
•
During the self-test, the system switches to the float charge state in the event of load fluctuations, UPS
module overloads, or battery unavailability.
•
During the self-test, if the battery voltage is lower than the calculated pre-alarm voltage or the battery
discharge exceeds the protection time, the system will switch to the float charge state.
•
The user can stop the maintenance test manually at any time via the LCD.
Note
If the self-test is completed successfully, the system will fully reset the self-test interval counter. However, if the
self-test fails, then it exits the system; when the self-test conditions are satisfied again, then it enters self-test
mode once more.
6.5.4
Manual maintenance self-test procedures
The following is a list of instructions that defines the manual maintenance self-test procedure:
•
Select the Command menu on the LCD screen. Use the F3 (left) key or F4 (right) key to display the Command
menu. Press the Enter key (HELP) to confirm.
•
Select the desired test. Use the F3 (up) key or F4 (down) key to highlight the desired test item. Press the
Enter key (HELP) to confirm.
•
Wait until the battery test has been completed. After the test, the system will update the battery data used to
calculate the backup time (displayed upon the mains failure) and the current battery capacity percentage
compared to a new battery (displayed in the inverter mode) automatically.
•
Stop the battery test. To interrupt the battery test before it is complete, select Stop test from the Command
menu.
See Chapter 5 - Operator Control and Display Panel for more information.

UPS Shutdown Procedures
This section provides a detailed description of the UPS shutdown procedures. There are 2 types of shutdown
procedure:
•
Procedure for shutting down the UPS completely
•
Procedure for shutting down the UPS while maintaining the power supply to the load
6.6.1
Shutting the UPS down completely
The following section defines the step-by-step procedures for shutting down the UPS and the load. The
step-by-step procedures are described below:
•
Press the INVERTER OFF button to stop the inverter. Press the EPO button to stop the rectifier, static switch,
and battery.
•
Disconnect the external battery switch.
•
Disconnect the Rectifier input switch Q1, Bypass switch Q2, and Output switch Q3. At this point, all the
