Battery watch BW312A / BW324A
Installation
Location of the battery watch
Choose a dry place well away from any heat source. Position the battery watch as central
as possible between the batteries, the alternator and the battery charger/inverter.
Do not place the battery watch immediately above a battery; sulphur fumes from the bat-
tery can damage the electronic components.
Connecting
For wiring diagram see page 50.
Use cable with sufficient cross-section to connect the the battery watch.
Use at least 25 mm
2
(AWG 4), for cables longer than 1 m use at least 35 mm
2
(longer than
3 ft use at least AWG 2).
WARNING
Heavy currents through wiring that is too thin, or resistance caused by bad connec-
tions, can generate excessive heat and could cause a fire. Use good quality intercon-
nection components.
Function of the terminals
B+ ALTERNATOR:
Connect the B+ terminal of the alternator.
Instead of ‘B+’ also one of the following indications may occur:
B+51, 51, B+30, B, BAT of 30.
Normally the B+ terminal of the alternator is connected to that + terminal of the starter
relay where also the plus cable of the starter battery is connected.
Remove the connection from alternator B+ to starter relay.
+ LIGHT
Connect the cable to the plus terminal of the auxiliary battery. Connect no auxiliaries direct-
ly to the auxiliary battery except a possible battery charger/inverter.
+ CONSUMERS
Connect the auxiliaries of the auxiliary battery such as illumination, pumps, fans etc.
Connect auxiliaries which draw more than 70 A (12 \/), resp. 40 A (24 \/), directly to
the plus terminal of the auxiliary battery.
