Application Examples
This section shows the general outline of how to initialize, configure, control and obtain
measurement results from the 2553/ 2553E. It specifically lists the commands, whether
IEEE488.1 or data, to send to the 2553/ 2553E and the format of measurement results
obtained from the 2553/ 2553E. This is not specific to a particular method by which
these operations can be performed, nor is it specific to a particular language or
manufacturer of IEEE488 interface. The user should consult the manuals on these to
obtain information regarding how to send commands or data to the 2553/ 2553E, and
how to read data from the 2553/ 2553E.
Simple Interfacing
For many applications, the interfacing of the 2553/ 2553E follows the example given
below. The user should check whether a different configuration is required (the default
configuration is used in this example), and whether different measurement results are
required.
1.
Send the IEEE488.1 interface DCL (Device Clear) command.
This ensures that the 2553/ 2553E IEEE488.1 physical interface is in a known
condition.
2.
Wait 500ms.
3.
Send the command SETDEFAULTS<NL> to the 2553/ 2553E.
This ensures that the 2553/ 2553E measurement configuration is in a known
condition.
4.
Send the WIRING command, which corresponds to the particular wiring
configuration used.
5.
Send the command
BANK0=VOLTS[A/RMS]/AMPS[A/RMS]/WATTS[A/RMS]<NL> to the 2553/
2553E.
This configures the 2553/ 2553E to return the RMS values for voltage, current and
real power, all for phase A.
