8.4.6 MEM. COMPACT
In view of the special hardware characteristics of the Genius’s internal flash memory, when a
file is deleted or modified the amount of memory available is not updated. To make the free
space available, the MEMORY COMPACT procedure has to be carried out.
WHEN TO CARRY OUT THE MEMORY COMPACT PROCEDURE
The Memory Compact procedure must be carried out when space needs to be cleared in the
internal memory (e.g. Memory Full errors). In general, this procedure is advisable when the
memory capacity allocated but not used exceeds one third of the total memory.
For information about the quantity of memory allocated (not available but unused), display the
INFOS video page of the DISK section (point 8.1.6) for the memory, and subtract the Used
and Free values from the Total value.
CARRYING OUT THE MEMORY COMPACT PROCEDURE
Depending on the quantity of memory installed and the number of files present, this operation
might take several minutes. You should therefore only carry out this operation in when really
necessary.
Also note that the Memory Compact procedure will automatically sort the contents of the
memory in ascending alphabetical order.
When the [F6] function key is pressed from the SYSTEM menu, the instrument will request a
confirmation to proceed (
Are You Sure ?
).
If confirmation is given, the system will display:
A progress percentage will indicate the progress made with the Memory Contact procedure.
When the operation is complete, the SYSTEM menu will be displayed.
