• Take care, start the engine only with the gear in selected N position;
• Do not change gears from N to D or from N to R when the vehicle is moving
forward. Perform the change without pressing the accelerator pedal.
ENGINE STARTING AND STOPPAGE.
Certainly, you already know the safety meusures and meaning of every indicator
on the panel of instruments. Follow the procedure below to activate the engine
and start the vehicle.
Cold Engine Starting
a) Make sure that the parking brake is activated.
b) Set the lever of the gearbox in the neutral position N.
Symbol
Description
Function or path types
R
Reverse gear
Move the vehicle back.
N
Neutral or dead
point
To start the engine and for the operations
during the vehicle’s stops.
OD
Over Drive or
fifth gear
Normal movement at constant speeds.
D
Drive or fourth
gear
Movement in heavy city traffic and on
descents.
2
Second gear
Movement in heavy and slow city traffic
and on steep descents.
1
First gear
Movement on very steep descents,
manouvers in short space and on very
dirty paths.
• Make sure that the engine is operating at a low-gear rotation;
• Make sure that the handbrake is not activated;
• Block the wheels and take all the precautions necessary to avoid the vehicle
motion;
• To let the vehicle operate at a low-gear for more than 5 minutes, select position
N. Never select gears R or D to avoid superheating of the transmission;
• To use position N in stationary positions, activate the brake to avoid unexpected
movements of the vehicle;
• Never use gear N to drive on the roads with slopes or sinusoidal turns. If let this
gear stay activated, it will provoke the following inconveniences:
a) The engine brake is let-loose, what may cause up to the loss of control over
the vehicle.
b) It damages the transmission because of lack of lubrication in the gearbox
internal bearings. At the moment of clutching, when vehicle is in motion,
leaving N position and changing for other forward gear, a failure may occur in
the transmission. This will shake the vehicle what may intensely compromise
all the chassis
•When descending keep to low speed, using the brake to prevent exceeding the
speed of the selected gear band, providing that the transmission does not perform
an increasing change, ensuring the engine brake activation. The lesser speed is,
the more capacity the engine has.
