Safety Measures to be taken
When the light (1) starts glowing, it indicates operation errors: operate the gearbox
as it was described above.
When the light (2) starts glowing, you should immediately require the Allison
assistance.
If the light (3) starts glowing – an excessive temperature – stop your vehicle and
wait until the temperature normalizes.
Then, check oil level in the transmission and the purity of the radiator water. If
removing these troubles, there are still problems, require the Allison assistance.
Periodic check and maintenance of the transmission are mandatory to preserve
its good performance and longer operation life.
To obtain information on the precuations and maintenance of this transmission,
read attentively the Allison Operator Manual.
In this owner’s manual will be presented only the oil radiator cleaning.
Oil Radiator Cleaning
Cleaning of this radiator is performed in the same manner as of the water radiator,
using compressed air, activating in the contrary direction in relation to the air
outflow.
Oil Level
Check it weekly, with the niveled vehicle and swithed-off engine, by means of
the gage rod.
Switching ON/OFF the Vehicle
Select gear N before switching ON/OFF the engine. Depending on cold intensity, it
may be necessary to add an oil of less viscosity (see the operating manual Allison
that accompanies the vehicle for more details). With the started engine, remain
with the vehicle stopped setting gear in position N.
Remain in such a position for 30 seconds before starting. This will provide pressure
accumulation of the fluid in the transmission.
Using the Engine to Reduce the Vehicle’s Speed
To use the engine brake, select the first lower gear after the gear that is now on.
If the maximum speed of the selected gear band is exceeded, use the brake.
When the vehicle is overloaded and/or goes down a very steep descent, it is
recommended to pre-select a gear that is lower before the descent. Remember
that selecting a combination of descendant gears enhances the engine brake
effect.
TOWING
Before towing the vehicle disconnect the crankcase from the differecial gear
end.
• Non-observance of this recommendation may provoke serios damages to the
transmission.
• See item Towingbar.
