b) Turning the measuring device on and off
• The digital multimeter is turned on and off via the rotary switch (5). Two beep sounds will sound when turning on the
digital multimeter. All symbols in the LC display (4) will be shown initially for about 2 seconds.
• Ensure that the enclosed battery is inserted properly prior to working with the measuring device. A 9 V block
battery is required for voltage supply. It is part of the delivery. Exchange the battery as described in the chapter “11.
Cleaning and Maintenance”.
• When the rotary switch (5) is set to “OFF”, the digital multimeter is turned off. Always turn the measuring device off
when it is not in use.
• The device is ready for taking measurement within 2 seconds after startup. Restart the device if the error message
“ErrE“ is displayed.
c) Automatic range selection
With the digital multimeter, the automatic range selection (auto range) is active in all measuring functions (except for
temperature and non-contact measuring). This function sets the right measuring range automatically. If applicable,
auto-mode is switched on when switching the rotary switch (5) to any measuring mode.
d) HOLD function
The HOLD button (12) allows you to hold the measuring value on the LC display (4). The symbol “ ” appears
on the LC display (4). This facilitates reading, e.g. for documentation purposes. Another press will switch back
to measuring operation again. Also observe that the HOLD button has not been pushed at the beginning of the
measurement (display with the HOLD button pushed: “H”). If the HOLD function is activated before commencement
of the measurement, no measured value is displayed!
e) Auto shutoff function
The digital multimeter has an auto shutoff function that shuts down the device automatically after 15 minutes of
inactivity (no measurement) to conserve energy. Pressing any key to wake up the device again.
• The auto shutoff function is automatically enabled whenever the digital multimeter is switched on. The symbol
shows on the LC display (4).
• To disable the auto shutoff function, press and hold the SELECT button (1) while the digital multimeter is “OFF“.
Keep holding down the SELECT button (1) while turning the rotary switch (5) clockwise to turn on the digital
multimeter. The symbol will not show on the LC display (4). The auto shutoff function is disabled. The digital
multimeter stays always on, even if no measurements are taken.
• To re-enable the auto shutoff function, switch off the digital multimeter and switch on again without pressing any
other button.
f) Back light function
During any measurement, press and hold the HOLD button (12) for two seconds to turn on the back light of the LC
display (4). Press and hold it for two seconds again to turn the backlight off.
