EVC - Electronic Vessel Control
The Electronic Vessel Control system (EVC/MC, referred to as EVC throughout the remainder of this manual) in-
stalled on this boat is the latest innovation, designed and developed by Volvo Penta, to provide boats with a full
range of centralized instrumentation, fault detection and warning systems, and an information center that delivers
crucial data at the touch of a button.
EVC consists of a series of electronic components that are inter-connected and constantly sharing information to
ensure that the boat’s systems are functioning properly. The heart of the EVC is a computer that monitors and
controls the entire system, providing the operator with a multitude of data and system controls.
How EVC Works
The computer that controls EVC is continuously receiving updated information from the engine(s), drive(s), and
various other sensors inside and outside the boat.
The information is made available via the Tachometer/LCD gauge located on the dashboard or control panel, as
well as via the usual gauges and alarm buzzer. At the touch of a button, the operator may view various informa-
tion provided by the system or may make a number of changes to the way in which information is displayed.
Benefits of Using the EVC System
There are many benefits to having EVC installed on a boat, the most important of which is safety. EVC ensures
that your boat’s systems are always operating within expected parameters and quickly informs you if anything is
out of the ordinary.
Quickly identifiable faults using the LCD screen.
Multiple fault warnings including: alarm buzzer,
Alarm Status Indicator, and LCD screen text.
Automated trip log and trip data viewing.
In most cases, the data is also provided more ac-
curately than on conventional air-core gauges.
SDT (Speed Depth Temperature) integrated multi-
sensor (option)
Following is a list of some of the added benefits to us-
ing the EVC system:
Vast amount of various data which is available at
a quick glance.
Engine, drive, and system information which can
be obtained at the touch of a button.
Robust, rugged, and reliable system which is de-
signed to survive harsh marine environments.
Vast array of fault warning and alarm functions.
