Impeller: Checking & Replacing
1 Remove the hose clamps and hoses from pump.
2 Loosen the four screws

and remove the housing

3 Inspect the impeller

. If there are cracks, signs of
burning or melting on the edges, or any other visible
defects, the impeller must be replaced. Inspect the
O-ring

for nicks, cuts, and wear. Replace as nec-
essary.
4 Lubricate the pump housing with non-petroleum
based lubricant, suitable for rubber, such as glyc-
erine. If you have purchased the Volvo Penta impel-
ler kit, a packet of glycerine is included.
5 Reinstall the impeller. Reinstall the housing.
Tighten bolts to 19–24 in. lb. (2.2–2.8 Nm).
6 Reinstall the hoses and hose clamps.
Freshwater Cooling System
WARNING!
Ethylene Glycol coolant is poisonous to humans and
animals if ingested.
Control all coolant removed from the engine or spilled
during service. Dispose of coolant and absorbent
materials according to local environmental regulations.
WARNING!
Do not open the coolant filler cap when the engine is
hot. Steam or hot fluid could spray out, causing severe
burns.
CAUTION!
Ethylene glycol coolant is an eye irritant. Wear eye
protection when working with coolant.
If your engine is equipped with a freshwater cooling
system, check the coolant level before each trip. If
coolant is low, add by removing the coolant filler cap

and adding coolant via the fill spout. Do not fill above
the maximum fill line

If the system is needing frequent top-offs, check for
leaks. If none are found the coolant useage could be a
sign of internal engine problems, see your dealer as
soon as possible.
Engines covered by this manual are filled at our factory
with the new, more advanced
VCS
yellow coolant. If
coolant needs to be added or replaced, use the same
