Distributor Cap and Rotor
Check for corrosion on the metal contacts inside the
cap and on the rotor.
Once the contacts have corroded the engine will start
to run poorly, burn more fuel, and may eventually stop
running completely. Check the cap and rotor fre-
quently, at least annually, and whenever troubleshoot-
ing poor engine performance.
The screws for the cap and rotor are Torx (star) heads.
The cap screws are T20, the rotor screws are T15.
Torque the screws to 2.4 Nm (21 lb. in).
Do not reuse the screws. Replacement screws are
available from your dealer. New caps and rotors come
with replacement screws.
Spark Plugs
Very high quality spark plugs were installed in your
engine at the factory. Replacement spark plugs must
be of equal quality. See your dealer for the correct
spark plugs.
The ignition and fuel management systems of these
engines are finely tuned around many factors, includ-
ing the exact specification of the spark plugs. After-
market plugs and plugs from other manufacturers may
differ slightly from the specifications of the factory
plugs.
NOTICE!
Using non-factory plugs in your engine could
result in poor engine performance and even engine
damage.
See
Maintenance Schedule
for replacement fre-
quency.
See the tune-up decal on the engine for plug gap.
Refer to the workshop manual for complete replace-
ment procedures.
