Check the engine oil level
– With the engine hood open the service points are easily acces-
sible.
–
The machine must be parked horizontally.
Pull the dipstick
out (Fig.), wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth, reinsert it until it
bottoms and pull it back out.
The dipstick should be covered with oil up to the upper mark
(MAX).
If the oil level is near or even below the bottom mark (MIN) top
up oil immediately to avoid severe engine damage
(seizure of
piston and bearings)
(for quality of oil refer to the lubrication
table).
Note:
The oil level inspection
before
starting the engine ensures a suffi-
cient engine oil level for starting.
For an exact oil level check the engine must be shut down again
after approx. one minute. In this case the entire oil system is filled
and after shutting the engine down your actually measuring the oil
quantity in the oil sump which is available while the engine is run-
ning.
Before longer operating periods of the engine we strongly advise
you to perform this double check of the engine oil level; especially
if the oil level is found to be near the bottom mark during the oil
level check before starting the engine.
New engines normally have a higher oil consumption. During the
running-in period (approx. 200 operating hours) the oil level should
therefore be checked twice every day. After the running-in period it
is quite sufficient to check the oil level once every day.
Always maintain the oil level at the top dipstick mark if the
engine has to work in slanted positions.
