CONVEYOR TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
PROBLEM
CAUSE
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Belt shifts to one side.
Normally the shift is more severe on the
idler or on the motor.
If the belt shifts on the idler, the problem
area is close to the idler or the idler
itself.
If the belt shifts on the motor the
problem is close to the motor.
Depending on the direction of the
belt motion.
Adjust the belt alignment spring. See
5.4.1 Adjust the Belt Alignment
Motor is crowned
– the surface is
higher in the middle of the drum,
relative to the sides.
This is correct behaviour.
This is done to track the belt to the
middle. The idler is not crowned, its
surface must be identical from edge to
edge.
Conveyor belt does not move.
Obstruction in conveyor assembly.
Check for any obstructions in the
conveyer belt assembly. There might be
an item caught underneath the belt.
Unplugged connectors.
Check the Molex connector 6 pin. See
5.4.2 Check the Conveyor Motor
Conveyor belt only moves in one
direction.
Unplugged connectors.
Check the motor connections. See
Conveyor Motor does not turn.
Faulty Motor Driver.
Replace the Motor Driver. See
Replace and Setup the Motor Drive
5.4.1 Adjust the Belt Alignment
The conveyor drum motor, idler and return rollers must be square to the belt motion direction.
The conveyor belt alignment may be off producing irregular belt movement. Over time, the
conveyor belt could migrate to one side and rub against the shroud. If the belt does not wear
evenly, for example, stretches on one side, the belt will migrate towards the looser side. The
adjustable lift roller is installed on the idler side, this allows for optimal adjustment in the forward
direction.
Forward
– the motor pulls the belt, for example, the belt turns from the motor’s top to
bottom. The adjustable lifting roller on the idler side allows for optimal adjustment in the
forward direction.
Reverse
– the motor pushes the belt, for example, the belt turns from the motor’s bottom to
top. The adjustable lifting roller on the motor side allows for optimal adjustment in the
reverse direction.
The conveyor parts, drum motor, idler and return rollers must be square to the
belt’s
direction of motion.
Belt tension must be approximately 0.4% - 1.0% more than the length at rest. Do not over
tighten the belt.
A belt tension test is to try and stop the belt with the weight of your body
– place both
hands on the moving belt and try to stop it. Alternatively, place a 25kg (approximately)
