a single VLAN, so the ARP discovery process will be reduced. The
VLAN ID used for Administration ID must not be used in the VLAN
Trunk table. If you just want another LAN Address to manage
the Gateway Controller, use
Alias Subnet
Alias Subnet
The Controller can support up to three
Alias LAN Subnets
, in
addition to the primary LAN IP. These subnets are intended for
equipment or users that are not on the main public network,
though they may still need authentication and bandwidth limits.
For each of these subnets, the Controller uses an alias IP in order
to serve as the default gateway for that subnet. The alias
subnets cannot overlap each other or the primary LAN subnet.
Alias Subnet Example:
At a Hotel, you might want three subnets:
One for the guests,
One for the office staff
One for network equipment like Access Points.
Primary LAN Subnet (guests)
192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.1.1
Alias 1: Front Office
192.168.2.0 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.2.1
Alias 2: APs
192.168.3.0 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.3.1
The Controller responds as the default gateway for each of these
subnets, at an address within that subnet. You can combine Alias
Subnet with Port Isolation to create totally separate networks.
Note: Man y of the advanced subscriber features are only available on the prim ary LAN
subnet. For this reason, the Alias Subnets are best suited for known devices or PCs, rather
than additional guest networks where subscribers come and go.
