WAN Port Mode
Link Properties
You must provide accurate line speeds for the
Total ISP Download Bandwidth
and
Total
ISP Upload Bandwidth
for the WAN port. If you are using a BA-4100
Broadband Aggregator or UTM-5000, provide the total bandwidth for all links. You
can also set the
WAN MTU
if necessary for your WAN port.
Note: These values are the actual available speed, not the "plan" from your ISP. Best
practice is to run a few speed tests in the evening when Cable and DSL speeds are at their
lowest to get the "real" speed.
WAN Configuration
Select among
DHCP Client
,
Static IP
or
PPPoE
Port Mode options here to indicate
the WAN Port Mode. By default, the Controller selects
DHCP Client
as the port mode.
1.
To connect via a Cable Modem and LAN with DHCP select
DHCP Client
Port Mode.
2.
To use a static IP address assigned by your ISP or static WAN
address select
Static IP
and perform the following steps:
1.
Enter the Static IP Address of the Controller.
2.
Enter the Subnet Mask for the Controller.
3.
Enter the Default Gateway Address.
4.
Enter the Primary DNS Number.
5.
Optionally, enter the Secondary DNS Number.
3.
To use
PPPoE protocol to connect to the ISP select
PPPoE
Port Mode and perform the following steps:
1.
Enter the User Name for PPPoE protocol provided by the
ISP.
2.
Enter the correct Password.
3.
Enter the correct
MTU
for your service, if necessary. The
default 1492 is typical.
