• Check the operation of the trailer brakes by braking the towing vehicle at
a slow speed. Both the vehicle and the trailer must brake smoothly. If the
trailer pushes, check the fluid level in the surge brakes or the operation
of the electric brakes.
• The trailer’s breakaway cable (if applicable) is attached to the towing ve-
hicle.
• Test the function of the breakaway system (if applicable).
Light fixtures
• Position the light fixtures down.
• Remove lamps from fixtures for rough or off-road transportation.

Licensing requirements
In most states, large trailers must be registered and licensed by the State
Department of Transportation. Before towing, be sure to check licensing re-
quirements.
Drivers towing trailers may be required to carry a commercial driver’s license
(CDL). Check your local and state licensing regulations before towing the
machine.
Coupler maintenance
A film of grease on the coupler extends coupler life and eliminates squeak-
ing. Wipe the coupler clean and apply fresh grease each time the trailer is
towed.
