Step 7. Installing the Cartridges and Membrane (s)
1. Remove housing #1 by turning clockwise with the housing wrench supplied. Remove all
protective wrapping from the 5-micron filter cartridge. Insert the 5-micron filter in the
housing and reassemble. The housings are seated with o-rings – DO NOT
OVERTIGHTEN – 1/4 turn after hand tight is usually sufficient.
2. The membranes are pre-installed in sealed units. If they need replacing after a time, turn
the water supply off. Remove the push connect fittings from all three ports on the
encapsulated membrane. Remove the membrane from the clamps and replace with your
new membrane. Re-attach the push on fittings to the correct ports.
Section 4: System Set-Up
Set-up of your RO system will be dependent upon the TDS of your feed water.
Make sure that
you specify the TDS of your feed water at the time the unit is ordered.
The system has been
shipped with a waste control orifice that will be intended for feed water of less than TDS of 1000 or
in the range of 1000 to 2000. Orifice colour codes are as follows:
< 500 TDS
Black
501-1000 TDS
Lilac
Make sure that you have the correct orifice plate fitted to your system. This orifice has been
selected to operate at the correct waste flow rate for your system. For systems configured for <500
TDS feed water, the recovery rate will be a maximum of 50%. For systems configured for 501-
1000 TDS, the recovery rate will be a maximum of 33%. The orifice plates can be found inside the
DLFC on the back of the waste flow meter.
Step 9: Starting Up and Flushing the System
(Only if a carbon filter is used in the pre-filtration housing, not required if the supplied
sediment cartridge is used)
1. Disconnect the line that feeds the RO membranes at the tee. (Figure #4) Turn the feed
water valve to the system on. Water will flow to the pre-treatment housing and flush loose
particles from the carbon filter. Use a bucket to catch the water or connect a longer line to
the drain.
This “flushing” will be required every time a carbon filter is changed
. After 5
minutes of continuous flushing, shut off the feed line and reconnect the tubing to the tee.
Turn on the feed line. The filter pressure should now register on the line pressure gauge.
