into the flash memory by an IBM compatible PC connected via a serial link
cable to the RS232 port on the Main Control PCB.
Requirements
• IBM compatible PC with a 3.5" floppy disk drive (drive A:).
• MS-DOS operating system V3.0 or later or Microsoft Windows 95/
Windows NT.
• 128Kb RAM (memory) free.
• One serial port (assigned as COM1:)
• Serial cable (742-213) to connect to the BMP Interface PCB.
The software is supplied on a 3.5" floppy disk. The software can also be
installed directly from the Vario Support CD. For up to date details of the latest
software revisions visit the Watkiss Automation Web site on the internet at
http://www.watkiss.com/tech

4.3.1 Loading Software
1. Switch off the power on the BookMaster Pro. Remove the rear panel to
access the Interface PCB.
2. Move the link switch LK1 to the ON (1) position.
3. Insert the floppy disk into the computer disk drive.
4. Exit to DOS
5. Change to drive A:
A: Enter
6. Start Vario load programme
VARIONEW Enter. A screen will
appear showing the loader program version details. Press any key to con-
tinue.
7. Connect the serial cable between the PC and the BMP. Switch on the
BMP.
8. Type D (Download Menu)
9. Type B (Download BookMasterPro Software)
10. Once loading is complete, switch off the power to the BMP.
11. Disconnect the serial cable, move the link switch LK1 back to the OFF (0)
position and replace the rear panel.
The VARIONEW program includes many other options for downloading soft-
ware into the Watkiss Vario collator. Further details may be found in the
Vario Service Manual (Watkiss P/No. 969-201)
4.3.2 Terminal Emulator Mode
Terminal Emulator mode uses the PC screen to provide diagnostic information
on the BMP status (see 8.3.2 ‘‘Terminal Emulator Mode’’).
