5.5 BookMaster Standard - After-Build Inspection Notes
These notes complement the test sheet on the previous page.
After-build inspections are not normally necessary after a BookMaster has
been despatched from the factory. Details are included however as a thorough
inspection may sometimes be required.
Section 1 - Visual checks
1. Check all painted surfaces of the machine for blemishes or damage.
2. Check the position of the staple heads; set the position of the staple heads
for A4 paper.
3. Check that the clinchers are correctly positioned below the staple heads
and locked.
4. Check that all the guards are fitted:
• 2 side covers
• Perspex fold latch guard
• Rear panel
• Top cover and stapler cover panel
Section 2 - Pre-run setting up
1. Check all controls and settings:
• Visually check that all controls are correctly fitted
• Adjust the sidelays through their minimum and maximum travel
• Adjust the BookMaster bottom lay through its full travel
• Move the edge staple latch in and out checking both positions
2. Check all wiring and connections behind the rear panel:
• Check all the wiring and connections, ensuring that they are correctly
located and secure
• Check that no wires are positioned where they can catch or rub
3. Check voltage settings:
Caution
• Before switching on the machine, check the voltage tappings on the
transformer
4. Check which software is installed in both machines and update if required.
5. Test the infeed sensor, and check that the fold knife fires.
6. Check that booklets made with 4 sheets of A4 paper are square and cor-
rectly folded, check staple quality, and check both staples are central on
the spine. Make any adjustments as required to correct errors.
7. Check that the outfeed conveyor is working (if fitted):
• Check that the timing and length of outfeed varies according to booklet
size
Section 3 - Running checks
1. Running the system under the Vario using as many bins as possible, check
that the sets feed cleanly into the BookMaster.
2. Hand-feed sets of 2, 4, 8, 16 and 20 sheets of 80gsm paper into the Book-
Master:
• Check quality and consistency of squareness of fold
• Check position and quality of staple
• Make any adjustments and repeat if required
3. Repeat steps 1. and 2. above, but with BookMaster set to edge staple mode.
