19
• move the edge staple selector lever to the edge staple position
• use the staple head selection button to select the third head
• hand feed two sheets of A4 paper into the BookMaster and check the
staple.
If a well-formed staple is not produced, adjust the position of the staple
head by sliding further backwards or forwards in the adjustment slots.
16. When a satisfactory staple is achieved, replace the stapler cover panel.
3.2.3 Staple Sensor Calibration
The staple sensor is mounted between the staple heads and is accessed by
opening the stapler cover panel. This is a mechanical sensor which is adjusted
via a bracket to increase/decrease paper detection.
Procedure
1. Switch OFF the power and disconnect from the mains supply.
2. Remove the five M5 button screws and M5 shakeproof washers from the
rear cover and then remove the panel.
3. Unplug the small 3-pin connector from PL11 on the Main Control PCB
(900-157 / 168) - this will deactivate the optical infeed sensor so that the
BookMaster will not start up when paper is inserted.
4. Reconnect the BookMaster to the mains power supply, switch on and wait
for the ‘ready bleeps’.
5. Observe the staple sensor LED (labelled ‘stitch sensor’ on the PCB), this
is normally ON. Insert a single sheet of 80gsm bond paper into the
machine and onto the staple latch. The LED should go OFF. If it remains
ON, the sensor is not operating and will need adjustment.
6. Open the stapler cover panel and slacken the sensor bracket mounting
screw. The sensor may now be adjusted by pivoting back and forth in the
adjustment slot. To increase sensitivity, pivot the sensor further into the
paper path, and vice versa.
7. Re-tighten the screws and repeat steps 5. and 6. as necessary until the cor-
rect adjustment is achieved.
8. Switch OFF the power and disconnect from the mains supply.
9. Re-fit the small 3-pin connector into PL11 on the Main Control PCB and
refit the rear panel.
3.2.4 Staple to Fold Calibration
Procedure
If both staples are consistently off the spine of the book you should first ensure
• that the BookMaster is adjusted correctly
• that delivery of sheets into the unit is accurate
• that there are no loose staples or other debris on the fold plate.
If the problem persists, fine tuning of the staple position may be necessary.
