11. Refit the solenoid cables.
12. Refit the mains input panel.
13. Manually crank the fold knife (see section 3.2.1 ‘‘Cycling the BookMaster

by Hand’’) to check that all parts are fitted correctly and move freely.

14. Run the machine and check the drive belt tension. Adjust if necessary.
15. Refit the rear cover.

3.2.11 Squaring Up Procedure

When squaring up the BookMaster unit, the fold blade is used as a datum to
which the sidelays, stitch latch and fold latch are aligned.

Procedure - Sidelay Tampers

1. Adjust the width axis to its maximum.
2. Open the staple lid and slacken off the two orange screws securing the

clincher guard. Remove the guard from the machine. Set the width axis to
A4.

3. Switch off and disconnect from the mains power supply.
4. Using a 3mm allen key remove the rear panel and both the side panels.
5. Manually actuate the fold blade clutch solenoid and turn the flywheel anti-

clockwise to move the fold blade forward.

6. Place the special squaring tool onto the fold blade and slide it into position

so that the inside face of the tool is adjacent to the outer surface of the L/H
tamper. Visually check the squareness of the tamper to the blade. If the
tamper is not square, then adjustment is necessary.

7. The aluminium tamper channel is adjusted laterally on the tamper carriage

using the cammed nuts fixed to the two mounting screws. The tampers are
factory set so that the adjustment cam bias is in the upper position, there-
fore to adjust the tampers, turn the nut in the same direction as the adjust-
ment is required, using a 10mm spanner. This can easily be done from the
front of the BookMaster.

8. Repeat steps 5 and 6 on the R/H tamper.
9. When the tampers are square, return the fold blade to the park position.

Place some foam down on the floor (to prevent damaging paintwork) and
carefully lay the machine onto it’s back. Remove the paper catch wire
frame from the machine to give full access to the tamper wheel post (see
section 3.2.6 ‘‘Replacing the Staple Latch Solenoid’’).

10. Slide a 12” steel rule into the L/H tamper channel and check that the edge

of the rule is just touching the plastic tamper wheel. If the rule is coming
into contact with the wheel so that it is pushed away from the tamper, or
there is a gap between the rule and the wheel then adjustment will be nec-
essary.

11. The wheel mounting post is cammed to allow for lateral adjustment of the

wheel. The post is factory set so that turning it clockwise with an 8mm
spanner will move the wheel inwards and anti-clockwise outwards.

12. Repeat steps 9 and 10 on the R/H tamper.
13. Replace the wire frame and place the BookMaster upright.
