❑
Now look carefully from the front of the fuselage at both
the wing and the stabilizer. When aligned properly, the
stabilizer should be level with the wing. If it is not level,
remove the stabilizer and use 220 grit sandpaper to carefully
sand down the high side of the mounting slot until the correct
alignment is achieved.
Step 4: Installing the Horizontal Stabilizer Assembly
❑
When satisfied with the alignment, use a pencil to draw
guide marks on both sides of the
bottom
of the stabilizer, at
both the leading and trailing edges.
☞
These marks will be used to realign the stabilizer when
you glue it into place.
❑
Remove the stabilizer and mix a small quantity of 5 minute epoxy. Apply a generous amount to the gluing surfaces in
the stabilizer mounting slot. Make sure to cover the top and bottom of the slot, and the front of the slot, too.
IMPORTANT
Do not apply epoxy to the rear portion of the slot. Apply epoxy only where the stabilizer assembly will be
glued into place.
❑
Slide the stabilizer assembly back into place and realign it. Remove any excess epoxy using a paper towel and
rubbing alcohol, and hold the stabilizer in place using push-pins until the epoxy fully cures.
❑
After the epoxy fully cures, remove the push-pins and
carefully glue the piece of foam you removed previously back
into the stabilizer mounting slot, using a small quantity of 5
minute epoxy.
IMPORTANT
Do not push the piece of foam up against the
back of the elevator joiner wire. Make sure you leave enough
room for the elevator joiner to pivot up and down - about a
1/8" - 3/16 gap.
❑
After the epoxy fully cures, carefully sand the piece of foam flush with the sides and back of the fuselage using 220 grit
sandpaper with a sanding block.
