Step 1: Installing the Main Gear Mounting Plate
❑
Test-fit the main gear mounting plate onto the bottom of
the fuselage. To align it properly, the plate should be centered
over the bottom of the fuselage and the back edge of the
plate should be 1/16" in front of the seam line of the belly pan.
❑
While holding the mounting plate in place, use a pencil to
carefully draw an outline of the plate onto the fuselage.
❑
Using a modeling knife, carefully cut out enough foam from within the outline you drew to make a flat base for the
mounting plate to glue to. Don't cut the recess too deep. Only remove enough foam so that the entire bottom surface of
the mounting plate sits flush with the fuselage. This will result in a much stronger glue joint.
❑
Using 220 grit sandpaper, lightly roughen the bottom of the mounting plate so that the epoxy will adhere to it better.
❑
Glue the mounting plate into place using a generous amount of 5 minute epoxy. Remove any excess epoxy using a
paper towel and rubbing alcohol, and hold the mounting plate in place until the epoxy sets up.
Step 2: Installing the Main Gear Wire
❑
Slide one wheel onto each of the two axles. Using needle nose pliers, carefully squeeze one wheel retainer onto each
axle to secure the wheels into place.
❑
Carefully push the prebent loop in the landing gear wire
through the molded slot in the mounting plate.
☞
If you ever want to remove the landing gear, you can
simply squeeze the prebent loop together and pull the wire
from the mounting plate.
