After you have adhered one side of the fuselage top deck
into place, use the same technique to adhere the other side
into place, making sure that the base of the top deck is even
with the bottom of the double-sided tape.
Step 2: Installing the Motor/Gear Box Assembly
❑
Using 220 grit sandpaper with a sanding block, lightly
sand the front of the fuselage to roughen the front of the
plastic fuselage top deck.
❑
Test-fit the plywood motor mounting plate onto the front
of the fuselage. To align it properly, the top edge of the plate
should be even with the top of the fuselage top deck and the
contour of the motor plate should be centered with the
contour of the fuselage.
❑
When satisfied with the alignment, glue the motor mounting plate into place using a generous amount of 5 minute
epoxy. Remove any excess epoxy using a paper towel and rubbing alcohol, and hold the plate in place until the epoxy sets up.
❑
Using a 5/16" diameter drill bit, carefully hand-drill an
angled hole up through the front of the fuselage and into the
fuselage deck area. Use the predrilled hole in the motor
mounting plate as a guide.
❑
Slide the motor wires into the hole and push the gear box
assembly up against the motor mounting plate.
❑
To align the gear box assembly properly, the gear box
should be centered from side to side on the motor plate and
the bottom of the gear box should be even with the bottom of
the motor mounting plate.
❑
When satisfied with the alignment, use a pencil to mark
the locations of the three mounting holes onto the motor plate.
