Step 2: Hinging the Ailerons
❑
Hinge each aileron to the wing using a strip of clear
plastic tape. Apply the tape to the
top
of the parts, making
sure there is no more than a continuous 1/16" wide gap
between the leading edge of the ailerons and the wing.
☞
There must be a 1/16" gap between the ailerons and the
wing so that the ailerons will deflect down completely. Also,
the leading edge of the ailerons are beveled. The beveled
edge should be toward the
bottom
of the wing.
Step 3: Mounting the Wing
❑
Using a sharp modeling knife, very carefully cut away
and remove the belly pan from the fuselage.
☞
Make several shallow cuts through the foam instead of
trying to make just one cut. If you have a fine-toothed razor
saw, that would work just as well to make the cuts.
❑
Place the wing into the fuselage and center it in the wing
mount. When centered, the center section seam at the
leading and trailing edges of the wing should be lined up with
the fuselage mold seam.
☞
You may find that you will have to enlarge the wing mount
slightly so that the wing will fit into place without distorting
the shape of the fuselage.
❑
Using 220 grit sandpaper, very carefully sand the surface
of the wing mount smooth and straight.
WARNING
Sand lightly and in small increments so you don't
distort the shape of the wing mount or sand it unevenly.
