When the log is supported on both ends, first cut 1/3 of the
diameter from the top and make the finished cut by cutting 2/3 of
the diameter from the underside to meet the first cut.
Cutting thick Branches on a Tree
When cutting off larger branches, you should first cut into the
branch from below.
First cut into the branch from below outside the place where you
intend to cut off the branch. The cut should go from one third to
halfway through the branch. This prevents the branch from buckling
when you cut into the branch from the top outside the first cut.
Finally, cut off the stump with one clean cut.
