Field Diagnostics
The main purpose of the Field Diagnostics is to create a single group of parameters to
aggregate all device status and diagnostics so that a Host system can integrate this
information into its infrastructure.
The next sections were written based on or copied from the Reference (FOUNDATION™
Specification, Field Diagnostics Profile – FF-912, Rev 1.0).
Standard Diagnostics Categories
NAMUR NE-107 has an aim of bringing together manufacturer’s concepts and user’s
expectations to making use of the capabilities in field device diagnostics.
The diagnostics are broken down into four categories: Failure, Off-Specification,
Maintenance, and Check Function. These categories are defined in
Table 28:

Alarm Schematic
Each of these four categories shares 32 conditions that can be defined by the device
manufacturer. Each condition may be mapped or not mapped for each category.
If a condition is mapped then it is indicated in the “FD_*_ACTIVE” parameter. If the condition
in the “FD_*_ACTIVE” parameter is not masked by the corresponding bit in the “FD_*_MASK”
parameter then the condition will be queued for broadcast using the corresponding
“FD_*_ALM” parameter at the associated priority indicated by “FD_*_PRI” parameter.
