FF Field Diagnostics
Among other advantages, the ICoT FF contains a powerful mechanism of failure diagnostic that helps the user or
the host system to identify failures, to indicate maintenance needs, check operating conditions, show if the device
is working off specification and to recommend actions to fix the diagnosed failures.
This mechanism is called Field Diagnostics (FD) and follows the FF Reference (FOUNDATION™ Specification, Field
Diagnostics Profile – FF-912, Rev 1.0). The parameters to configure this mechanism and the parameters to get the
diagnostics information are located in the
Resource
block.
Section 11.4.2 shows the complete list of the Resource block parameters and a short description of each one.
The Field Diagnostics group parameters are defined in the bottom part of the block definition, generally after the
index # 42, in a section reserved for the so called “common practice parameters”
Section 11.3 (Field Diagnostics), there is an overview about the FF Field Diagnostics.
Mapping the Field Diagnostic Bits
shows how the Field Diagnostic bits are mapped in the ICoT and how these bits are pre-
configured in terms of alarm type, mapping, mask and their recommended action number.

In the ICoT FF version 4.1 they are defined from the parameter index 42 up to the index 64.
