Remote Control Operation
The remote packaged with this unit transmits via
Infrared or IR, the same as most TV remote con-
trols. The remote’s 6 button can change the
unit’s features and controls. The transmit range is
approximately 4 feet
, which is sufficient for the
majority of vehicles.
The remote is already programmed into the
radar detector so no additional programming is
necessary. If a replacement remote is necessary
(from being lost or damaged), the new remote is
“XTR ready”
The feature buttons on the remote duplicate
those found on the laser-radar detector itself
and in case of the XTR-220 more than what the
unit can do on its own.
The remote utilizes a common coin cell battery
CR 2032 which is available at most retail outlets.
This battery should provide similar battery life as
a vehicle’s keyless entry remotes and home
remote controls
Windshield Mounting (Cont.)
If the detector is removed, this may cause blis-
tering of the dash in some vehicles.
• Slide the detector onto the bracket until it
locks into place.
• If necessary, the unit may be leveled by
bending the windshield bracket. Press the
bracket release button and remove the
detector before bending.
Power Connection
• Plug the small end of the power cord into the
unit’s power jack.
• Plug the large end into the vehicle’s cigarette
lighter.
NOTE:
Cord fits tightly into detector. When
installing the cord, expect some resistance.
Fuse Replacement
The lighter socket plug is equipped with a
replaceable 2 amp 3AG fuse located behind the
silver tip. To replace the fuse, carefully unscrew
the tip of the plug.
IMPORTANT: Unscrew slowly. The tip contains
a spring which may fly out when disassem-
bling.
Insert the new fuse with the spring and screw on
the tip.
With use, screw cap on plug may
loosen. Retighten occasionally.
Unscrew the tip of the lighter socket
plug carefully when replacing the 2
amp fuse.

Replacing the Remote Battery
The remote control is powered by a 3 volt coin
type cell, model CR 2032. However, all batteries
eventually need replacing. When the time comes,
follow these steps:
• Remove the Phillips head screw located at the
bottom back side of the remote.
• Separate the two halves of the plastic case
• Gently lift out the PC board as the battery is
located opposite the buttons.
• The battery should slide out from its holder. Make
note of the correct polarity. Positive (+) is facing
away from the PC board.
• Insert the new battery, being mindful of the
correct polarity.
• Reassemble the reverse of disassembly
Setting Saver
Setting Saver saves your personalized settings so
that when the detector is turned off and then on
again, you do not have to re-enter them.
Feature Engaged Confirmation
Each time a button is pressed one beep confirms
feature “on”, two beeps confirm feature “off”.
Audio Level Adjustment
The audio levels can be adjusted high to low or
low to high two ways:
1. Press and hold the PWR/VOL ( VOL on XTR-
520) button and the volume level will increase
(Level 7) then proceed to lower the volume
(Level 0). Continuing to hold this button will
repeat the sequence. As audio level is adjusted,
beeps are provided and the display indicates
volume level.
2. Press either VOL UP or VOL DOWN on the
remote control.
