– Replace the standoff removed from the V52 socket. The screws should be finger-tight.
Remember to include the lockwasher on the component side of the board. The heater leads
should straddle the standoff.
– Loosely twist the wire and the choke lead together and route to the 3-post terminal strip.
Place the wires above the circuit board at socket level.
– Connect the green wire from pin 4 of V52 to post #1. Do not solder.
– Connect the choke lead from pin 5 of V52 to post #3. Do not solder.
– Find C110 and C111 –
1000 pF, 500 V disc
, which were set aside previously. Install one
capacitor between post #1 and post #2 (ground) on the terminal strip. Do not solder. Install
the other capacitor between post #3 and post #2 (ground). Do not solder post #3. Solder
post #2 (two leads).
– Cut two 6-inch pieces of #22 green heater wire. Connect one wire to each of the outside
posts on the terminal strip. Solder (3 connections on each post).
– Twist the wires together and route to socket V53 (see Figure 5.2
d
for placement). The
wires should be placed at socket-level. Do not dress the wires against the PWB.
– Trim the wire lengths as needed to comfortably reach V53. Slip a piece of heat-shrink
tubing over each wire. Crimp one wire on pin 4, and then crimp the other on pin 3. Do not
solder.
– Cut two 3-inch pieces of #22 green heater wire. Slip one through the heat-shrink tubing on
the lead already connected to pin 4 of V53. Route the wire to the pin and crimp in place.
Solder, keeping the heat-shrink tubing away from the hot wires and the soldering iron.
Slip the other wire through the heat-shrink tubing on the lead already connected to pin 3 of
V53. Route the wire to the pin and crimp in place. Solder, keeping the heat-shrink tubing
away from the hot wires and the soldering iron.
– Slide the heat-shrink tubing into position at the base of the socket. Apply a stream of hot
air to shrink the tubing over the pins. Be careful to not use too much heat.
