Engine sides and ends - names
The sides and ends of the engine have the names and abbreviations that follow (refer to
•
DE - Driving End (end that has a flange to attach the propeller shaft)
•
FS - Fuel Side (side that has the equipment for the supply of fuel and other operating media)
•
FE - Free End (end that is closed with a cover)
•
ES - Exhaust Side (side that has the equipment for the discard of the exhaust gas and for
the supply of scavenge air).

Standard and LEFT engine
An engine is one of two types:

A standard engine has the exhaust side (ES) on the right side of the engine (seen from the
driving end).
