Chapter 6 – Using DiProPAC Die Protection (Optional)
Green Special Sensors
Settings: Special [stroke] count and Startup [stroke] count
Green special sensors are designed to detect events – such as slug ejection/stacking – that occur
intermittently while the machine runs, but not necessarily on every stroke.
Slug stacking cannot be monitored with a standard green sensor unless the slugs eject on every
cycle. A red or yellow sensor is equally ineffective because the sensor changes state whenever a
slug is ejected.
Instead of actuating once per stroke like a typical green sensor,
the green special sensor must
actuate at least once during a preset number of strokes
. Rather than setting a Ready signal, you
set the maximum number of strokes that the press can make without the sensor actuating. If needed,
you can also set a number of strokes to elapse before the green special starts its first monitoring
cycle.
For example, if your die clears the slugs from a particular ejection hole approximately every four
strokes, set a Green Special sensor input for a five-stroke window. If no slugs are ejected after five
strokes, SmartPAC PRO sends a Stop command to the press.
In some applications, you need to delay the monitoring of a Green Special sensor upon startup. For
example, when a sensor is using the green special sensor type to monitor parts or slugs coming out of
the press on a conveyor. You might want to verify that something is coming out of the press every 5th
stroke, but it takes ten strokes after startup for the first part to reach the end of the conveyor where the
sensor is located.
In this example, set the Green Special counter to 5, and the startup counter to 10 (Figure 6-16).
