be cleaned with optical/lens tissue or pure cotton. For stubborn fingerprints or
smudges, breathe against the lens surface and wipe gently with lens tissue. AVOID
THE USE OF SOLVENTS OR CLEANING SOLUTIONS AS THESE AGENTS MAY DAMAGE
LENS ELEMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN CEMENTED IN PLACE. The 4x, 10x and 40x are
made to be used with dry slides only. Do not allow the objectives to touch a wet
specimen or touch oil. This could damage the objectives and is not covered under
the warranty. Always use a coverslip on slides when using the 10 x and 40 X to
protect the lens.
The 100 X Oil Immersion Objective will not focus on a dry slide. You must use
Immersion Oil with this lens to focus the image. The specimen must have a cover
clip to protect the specimen and lens. With the tiniest drop of oil on the coverslip,
bring the 100 X down very carefully to the slide. Allow the oil to make contact with
the lens. You may at this time need to adjust the Iris Diaphragm and Dimmer Dial
to allow more light into the objective. Now you can do some critical focusing with
Coarse and Fine Focusing Knobs. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOT TO RETURN
THE NOSEPIECE TO THE 40 X OBJECTIVE AFTER USING IMMERSION OIL. After all
viewing with the 100X is complete. It is extremely important to lower the stage all
the way down and clean all the oil from the 100 X and the slide. Any oil that comes
in contact with the other objectives can damage them.
MECHANICAL STAGE: The Beta Elite microscope is equipped with an integral
mechanical stage and the Specimen Holder is installed at the factory. To load a
slide onto the stage, simply bring the slide to the holder from the right-hand side
of the holder and place onto the stage so that the spring-loaded clip on the left
side will secure the slide. To remove the slide, reverse this action by picking up the
slide in the middle or end and push the left clip outward and pull the slide up.
FOCUS CONTROL (stage type): The Wolfe
Beta Elite Series microscopes utilizes a
fixed body tube. Focus is achieved through use of coaxial course and fine-focus
adjustment knobs located on the lower half of the microscope arm and block,
below the stage. You should notice vertical movement of the stage when focusing
an image. NOTE: On the left side of the microscope, the inner ring on the coaxial
focus knob is a tension adjustment ring. Rotation of the collar away from the stage
increases tension of the focus adjustment. Rotation of the ring
BUILT-IN LED ILLUMINATOR: Your microscope has a built-in LED illuminator. AS A
PRECAUTION, GROUNDED ELECTRICAL SERVICE SHOULD ALWAYS BE PROVIDED
WHEN USING THE MICROSCOPE. The LED is rated at 40,000 hours, so it is likely
you will not need to replace them for many years. In the event a new bulb is
needed, you can order item # 591141
Wolfe® Beta Elite LED Replacement Lamp.
This
bulb is a lamp assembly and will need to be installed inside the scope. If you are
not sure about opening your scope, contact the microscope department at
Carolina for instructions.
