For further information on Ethernet connectivity, see Volume II of this
manual.)
Use shielded Ethernet cable only! Use of non-shielded cable may
result in permanent system damage.
RS-232 Serial Ports COM1, COM2
Two high speed, 115 kBaud RS-232 serial ports are available for system use.
These ports support serial communication using various protocols and devices.
Systems that include DeviceNet or CanOpen will have only one RS-232 serial
port available.
For example, these ports can be configured for Modbus®* master or slave,
ServLink Data and Control, Datalog Capture, Tunable Maintenance, or even
modem access.
[*Modbus® is a trademark of Modicon, Inc.]
These communication ports are non-isolated
and are susceptible to both EMI
noise and ground loops related to PC connections and typical industrial
environments. Shielded cables, a 9-pin D-sub filter connector, and Serial Port
Isolator/Converter(s) are required when using these ports. The following standard
options are available:
•
RS-232–RS-232
Isolator
•
RS-232–RS-485
Isolator/Converter
•
RS-232–RS-422
Isolator/Converter
•
9-pin D-sub Filter Pin Connector Kit (Woodward part number 8928-7034)
A serial port Isolator/Converter must be properly installed, grounded,
and powered prior to connection with the CPU. Once properly
installed, it may be connected to the CPU or field device at any time.
A 9-pin D-sub filter pin connector must be installed at the serial port
prior to connection with the CPU.
