4. Functional Description
The Würth AP HVLP is a universal and handy spray gun with adjustable
round/flat fan for primers and fillers with a viscosity of 22-40 sec. meas-
ured with the DIN 4 viscosity cup. The spray gun body is made of forged
aluminium and anodised. Materials containing abrasives, acid or benzine
may not be used. The compressed air required for spraying is fed at the
air inlet integrated into the gun handle. By pulling the trigger until the first
pressure point, the air valve is opened (pre air control). When pulling the
trigger further, the paint needle is pulled out of the paint nozzle. The mate-
rial flows out of the paint nozzle and is atomised by the compressed air
simultaneously streaming from the air cap. The lid is equipped with an anti
drip device preventing material flow from the ventilation hole.
5. Safety Instructions
Warning! Attention!
Prior to putting the unit/paint spray gun into operation, read the operat-
ing instructions completely and thoroughly. The stipulations contained
therein are to be respected in any case. After that, the operating in-
structions are to be stored in a safe place, accessible for every user of
the equipment.
The unit/paint spray gun may only be put into operation by persons
familiar with its use (professionals). Inappropriate use of the unit/paint
spray gun, modification of any kind or combination with inappropriate
other parts may cause material damage, serious hazard to the user‘s,
other person‘s or animal‘s health or even death.
Würth shall not take any responsibility for such damages (e. g. failure
to respect the stipulations laid out in the operating instructions).
The applicable safety, workplace and worker health protection regu-
lations of the respective country or area/district in which the system/
the paint spray gun is used are to be respected in any case (e. g. the
German Rules for the Prevention of Accidents BGR 500 (BGV D25)
and BGV D24 issued by the Central Office of the Professional Trade
Associations, etc.).
Please note:
Never point paint guns at yourself, at other persons or animals. Sol-
vents and diluting agents can cause burns. Only the respective quanti-
ties of solvents and paints required for work progress may be present
in the direct surroundings of the unit and are to be returned after work
to their assigned storage rooms. Before any repair work may be carried
out, the unit must be disconnected from the compressed air network
and pressure must be released.
Before starting to use the paint gun, particularly after repairs, en-
sure that screws and nuts are correctly tightened, and check that
gun and hoses do not leak.
Defect components must be replaced or repaired, use original spare
parts only.
No sources of ignition (e.g. open flames, burning cigarettes, lamps
without ex-protection etc.) may be present during painting, as easily
flammable mixtures are generated during the painting process.
Occupational safety regulations must be applied when painting (res-
piratory protection etc.). Appropriate ear protection muffs are required,
as a sound level of 90 dB (A) can be exceeded when painting under
higher pressure levels.
No vibration is transmitted to the upper parts of the operator’s body
during the painting process.
Recoil forces are negligible.
The use of this product in explosion hazard areas Zone 0 is pro-
hibited.
Warning! Attention!
6. Use
6.1. General
Before putting into operation, and especially after each cleaning and any
repair work, check to see that all screws and nuts are tight. This applies
in particular for the material flow control screw (counter nut), the round/
flat spray control as well as the hexagon screw, for the air micrometer. For
servicing/repair work of any kind the system must be devoid of pressure,
i.e. disconnected from the air supply. Failure to respect this safety warn-
ing may result in damage and injuries, even death at worst. Würth does
not take any responsibility for possible results of such failure.
a) Mount the nozzle set tightly (use universal wrench for the paint noz-
zle). Align the air nozzle so that the number stamped into it can be
read from the front the right way round.
b) Blow out the air hose before attaching it to the air connection (G ¼
ext.). The air hose must be pressure-resistant for min. 10 bars and
solvent-resistant. Total electric resistance: < 100 million Ohm, for
example Würth air hose.
6.2. Setting the Spray Pattern
The spray pattern can be set steplessly within the range of the preset air
nozzle setting up to a round spray by means of the round and flat spray
control.
6.3. Reduction of the Material Volume
The material flow and the needle lifting can steplessly be reduced if the
material flow control is screwed loose.
6.4. Changing the Nozzle Set
A bad spray pattern increases the working time for grinding work.
Therefore change the complete nozzle set (air cap, paint nozzle and paint
needle) in time.
6.5. Exchanging the air piston and air
piston packing
To replace the air piston remove the air micrometer. Pull out spring and air
piston. Exchange the air piston. Unscrew stuffing box screw and remove
the old packing. Now insert new packing with flat end first and gently
tighten stuffing box screw towards packing, then mount air piston with
spring and air micrometer and fully tighten until easy movement of the air
piston rod is achieved.
6.6. Adjusting the air volume by means of
the air micrometer
The infinitely variable air micrometer allows the spray air volume to be
adapted to suit the medium being sprayed or misted.
Notice!
Maximum atomization = Air micrometer in vertical position (parallel to
gun body)
Minimum atomization = Air micrometer in horizontal position (across gun
body)
Warning! Attention!
While the spray gun is connected to the air supply, the air micrometer fix-
ing screw, must not be removed. When the fixing screw is removed, the
spray gun must not be put into operation.
6.7. Replacement of the self adjusting
paint needle packing
For replacement of the self-adjusting paint needle packing the paint
needle must be removed. Insert hollow key SW 4 with its cylindrical con-
nection into the gun instead of the paint needle, and unscrew the packing
screw from the gun, together with compression spring and packing.Push
compression screw, compression spring and new packing onto cylindri-
cal connection of the hollow key, and screw them tight inside the gun
body. Check paint needle for damage and reassemble.
