Needed tools and materials
• Cordless Drill, with 7/16 high speed drill bit.
• Metric Open Ended Wrenches sizes: M(13,17)
• Metric Allen Wrenches or Driver sizes: M(5,8)
• Spray Galvanizing
Assembling and Installing the Footings:
Sigma posts must be fixed in the ground in accordance with local soil
conditions and structural drawings. The length of sigma posts can vary.
This depends on local conditions and is determined by the geotechnical
engineer conducting the soil survey. End of sigma post with 2 mounting holes
must protrude from ground to a height of 20 in. (500 mm). Holes on sigma
post must be facing front and back of PV array. It does not matter whether
the open side of the sigma post is facing to the right or the left as long as
every post is facing the same direction. Spray galvanizing should be used on
any part of the sigma post where the galvanizing has been disturbed during
installation.
If a concrete foundation is prepared,
the sinking of the sigma posts with
rebar requires a reinforced foundation.
A hole must be drilled within 8 inches
of the bottom of the sigma post and
painted with spray galvanizing for
corrosion protection. Rebar must then
be inserted halfway through hole and set into
concrete footing at required depth to resist pullout reaction.
Bearing block must now be attached to the aluminum vertical post with
supplied M8 x 85 mm socket head
cap screws, nuts and washers
using predrilled hole in vertical
post and bearing block. Flat side
of bearing block must face thin
side of vertical post profile to
maintain structural Integrity.
See
Figures 3.1 and 3.2
Nut and washer must be fastened
on the thick side of the vertical post
extrusion.
See Figure 3.2
(Hardware does not need torque
at this time. The nut and washer will
eventually be removed for diagonal
strap installation.)
