Troubleshooting

Regardless of manufacturer or product, the majority of installation

difficulties can typically be attributed to communication problems between

devices or when high bandwidth transmissions are attempted with

insufficient cable/connections. Should you find yourself in such a situation,

refer to the following checklist of common issues and causes that should
help you shoot your way out of trouble without seeking further assistance.

No or poor quality picture

Connected and powered? Double-check all device cables and power

connections are firmly inserted into correct ports and that all devices are

powered.

Are connected sources off or outputting an unsupported resolution?

Is the scaler set to an unsupported resolution for the display device?

Check an active connected source is selected.

Check HDBaseT transmission and receiving devices are operating
normally.

Test the system - confirm local HDMI outputs are functioning correctly

using pattern timing generator and signal analyzer test equipment  - we
recommend the WyreStorm TT-KIT-4K Test Kit.

Use the test equipment to send a test signal into the SW-1001-HDBT
to check for correct signal routing prior to installation.

HDMI – make sure output resolution is not higher than the supported
1200p.

LED Indication. Check red POWER LED is lit to signify unit is

powered. Check blue STATUS LED on unit is flashing to indicate correct

functionality. Check green Input LED is lit to illustrate source is selected.

No or poor quality audio

VGA Audio – if VGA audio is not embedding, check cable and ensure
devices are outputting audio.

HDMI/DisplayPort Audio – check output audio signal is supported.

If no output audio, check the level is not set to zero in Web UI or serial
protocol

Receiving device – please be advised that the use of third party
HDBaseT receiving devices is not recommended. WyreStorm PoH-
enabled receivers are preferred method of receiving transmissions but

the WyreStorm AMP-001-010 digital audio amplifier can also be used for

enhanced audio connectivity at display zones.

Note: AMP-001-010 is PoH compatible as a pass-through device

only.  The unit itself will require local mains power.

Cable and signal

Cable length – is the signal struggling to transmit the distance of the
HDMI or Cat5e/6 cable? Interference may be exceeding the maximum
capacity of the transmission cable distance.
Try a shorter cable run or swap out cable or device for one you know is
functioning normally to rule out faulty equipment and cable.

Signal strength – the use of cable joins, stranded patch panels, wall
outlets and stranded patch leads as interconnects between them, can

significantly reduce signal strength. Use solid core straight, straight

through connections wherever possible.

Resolution - If no signal, reduce the resolution of the output to 720p
or 576p. If a signal appears, a bandwidth issue with the cable is the likely
cause. Check all inputs and outputs share the same resolution and make
sure the signal is being successfully transmitted the full length of the cable
run.

Picture ‘snow’/HD ‘noise’ – signifies a failure to fully establish a signal

and can often be caused by poorly terminated RJ45 connectors or
excessive cable lengths on distribution devices. Ensure any category
cable used is correctly wired to 568B standards. Try swapping in sources,
displays or transmission devices known to be functioning correctly – if the

problem continues on the same output, turn off all equipment and swap

the signal carrying cables at both ends.

Cable quality and condition – HDMI cable/connectors can be easily
damaged and the quality of material can vary, especially in the lowest
price brackets. Successful transmission of video, audio and control, can

all be affected by cable and termination quality. Always use good quality

leads and cables, with RJ45 connectors wired to the 568B standard at
both ends for category cables. We recommend using WyreStorm Express
high-speed HDMI cables.

In terms of HDBaseT transmissions, Cat6 is recommended as standard
due to increased bandwidth and improved capacity for handling large
transmissions and power along a single cable.

Should transmission problems be experienced, try swapping cables/leads
for those already working to see if this improves your image to identify
cable issue as source of problem.

Blu-ray - Make sure all your equipment has been configured and

enabled to transmit and accept the signal, or is capable of passing a
signal. Are resolutions between source and display compatible and cable
adequate for the large bandwidth required by Blu-ray transmissions?

4K – is 4K equipment being used within the installation? The SW-
1001-HDBT is not 4K compatible.

Safety Recommendations:

Do not expose this apparatus to any form of moisture, including the
placement of anything containing liquids on the unit.

To prevent risk of electric shock or fire hazard, ensure apparatus is

installed in an unobstructed, well ventilated area away from any external
heat sources - including other electrical devices which may produce heat.

Only use attachments / accessories specified by the manufacturer and
refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Failure to adhere to these recommendations may invalidate your
warranty.
