FITTING THE DRAWBAR COUPLING (QUICK-RELEASE COUPLING)
The coupling is always mounted on the left side of the bicycle wheel when looking in
the direction of travel. It consists of two parts: the drawbar head, which is attached
to the drawbar, and the axle link, which is attached to the hub axle of the rear bicycle
wheel. Before fitting the coupler to the axle, determine whether the bicycle is suitable
for towing a trailer. Check your bicycle owner's manual, ask the manufacturer or your
bicycle dealer.
⚠
WARNING:
The axle coupling must be fitted co rectly. An incorrectly
mounted axle coupling can come loose while riding and lead to ac-
cidents with life-threatening injuries.
a) Open the quick release lever on the rear wheel of the bicycle.
b) Unscrew the axle nut counterclockwise. Be careful, there is a small spring underneath
that can pop off.
c) Fit the link onto the wheel axle without removing the spring.
d) Screw the axle nut clockwise onto the wheel axle thread, making at least five complete
turns.
e) Align the rear wheel and close the quick release lever. The direction of movement
of the clamping lever is often marked "CLOSE". The applied force must increase from
about halfway. In the last phase just before the final position, the clamping lever should
be difficult to move. In the final position the lever must be parallel to the frame and must
not protrude.
f) Check that the quick release is really solidly closed by trying to rotate the closed
quick release around its own axis. If the quick release can be turned, this means that
the clamping force is not sufficient. Open the clamping lever and turn the axle nut half
a turn clockwise. Repeat step e), if the clamping lever cannot be closed completely,
open the clamping lever and turn the axle nut half a turn counterclockwise. Remember
that the axle nut must be screwed onto the quick release thread by making at least five
complete turns.
⚠
WARNING:
Less than five full turns of the thread will not ensure
sufficient clamping force of the rear wheel, which can lead to acci-
dents with life-threatening injuries. The quick release axle is then too
short and must be replaced. This is available as an accessory. Contact
a specialist workshop.
g) Finally, try sliding the rear wheel in the hooks to make sure it is correctly fixed.
⚠
WARNING:
The rear wheel must be correctly fixed after mounting
the axle coupling. An incorrectly fastened rear wheel can lead to ac-
cidents with life-threatening injuries when riding. Observe the operat-
ing instructions for your towing bicycle. If in doubt, consult a specialist
workshop.
FIT TING THE DRAWBAR CONNECTOR (RIGID AXLE)
The connecting rod is always mounted on the left side of the bicycle wheel when looking
in the direction of travel. It consists of two parts: the drawbar head, which is attached to
the drawbar, and the coupling part which is attached to the hub axle of the rear bicycle
wheel. Before fitting the axle coupler, determine whether the bicycle is suitable for towing
a trailer. Check your bicycle owner's manual, ask the manufacturer or your bicycle dealer.
