Connectivity options for other mainframes
Non-IBM or DEC mainframes are connected to the 4890 in an
online configuration using third-party interface options.
Online interface option
Several non IBM-compatible mainframes may be connected to a
4890 printer through the appropriate third-party interface. Refer
to the “Application software data streams and connectivity”
appendix for a list of some of these interfaces. More information
on third-party interfaces is available from the Xerox Connection
or your site representative.
Data streams
For non IBM-compatible mainframes in an online configuration,
application output is generally in line printer or LCDS (Xerox
metacode) format. No data stream conversion is required, so a
front end processor is not necessary.
Color specification
PDL and metacode commands support highlight color.
