LPS fundamentals
The Xerox 4890 HighLight Color Laser Printing System (LPS)
brings highlight color capability to the world of electronic
printing. Through advanced imaging technology known as tri-
level xerography, this printer has the capacity for production
printing. It also prints at 300 dots per inch (dpi) with black plus
one color and tints and shades of that color in a single pass.
Electronic printing
Electronic printing is the integrated production of documents,
using digitally stored text files and graphic images, computerized
composition techniques, and electronic printing systems such as
the 4890 LPS.
This concept applies to a variety of printing applications including
books, lengthy reports, forms, listings, invoices, statements, and
other business communications.
Advantages
Electronic printing has several important advantages over
traditional printing methods:

The use of preprinted forms can be eliminated. Forms are
created electronically, using a wide range of design elements
such as lines, boxes, color, graphic images, and a variety of
fonts. Forms are automatically merged with variable data.

Unlike traditional printing processes, color can accent data,
such as the customer balance shown on a statement or
invoice, price figures on a price list, or items that need to be
reordered on an inventory report.

Electronic printing allows you to create documents and forms
in less time, with more control over the result (including the
ability to make last-minute changes).

Because of reduced setup time, electronic printing makes
smaller print jobs more economical, including the ability to
add color easily even when only a few copies are required.
Electronic printing also increases the economy of printing a
few copies of large documents.

Electronic printing is a single integrated process. While
traditional printing often requires multiple steps (more when
color is involved), the 4890 LPS manages multiple steps
automatically, while still giving you complete control over the
process.
The goal of electronic printing is to increase efficiency in the
document creation process.
