To check if your drive is compatible, plug it into your musicm8. Navigate to the
Web UI (musicm8 or musicm8.local for Mac users) In the Main Menu, click Space.
The drive will be scanned and its compatibility shown in the Backup Process sec

tion, in red text.
With a compatible USB Drive connected, navigate to the Web UI, under the NAS
menu, select Automated Backup and click Enable, then Update to confirm.
Which way around should I put the CD into the slot?
Put the disc in with the label on the right. If your musicm8 has been laid flat, with
the XiVA logo the right way up, the disc label should be up when you insert a disc.
Why won’t the CD I put in the slot record?
Check your internet connection. If the internet connection is down, recording is
disabled. The unit will beep, then wait 5 minutes before trying again.
The CD I just recorded does not show up on my UPnP streaming device?
If you have just recorded your CD, there are four steps to ensure that your media
will show up on your UPnP device:
Navigate to the musicm8 Web UI (musicm8 or musicm8.local for Mac users)

then open the Recording menu and click Encoder status. This screen will tell
you if any tracks are queued for encoding, in which case they will not appear
on your UPnP device until encoding has taken place.
If all your tracks have been encoded, follow these steps:

Navigate to the Web UI at the top on the page click Twonky.

The Twonky Media screen will appear. Click Twonky Media Settings.

On the left sidebar click Basic Setup. Under this heading click Sharing.

In the Sharing screen click Rescan Content Directories, which will prompt

Twonky to rescan and add all the correct media to your UPnP devices.
You may like to set a shorter rescan time to prevent this occurrence in the

future.
Check that your UPnP output device supports playback of your media. If your

UPnP device does not support a specific audio type, your musicm8 can encode
to other formats which your UPnP output device may support. To change the
encoding setting on your musicm8, under the Recording menu, click En

coder Settings. Your musicm8 can encode to FLAC, MP3, WAV, Dual Encode:
MP3+FLAC & Dual Encode: MP3+WAV. Make your selection and click Update.
If the previous two steps were not successful, reboot your musicm8 via the

front panel or the Web UI (The reboot option is in the ‘Miscellaneous’ drop
down within the Web UI).

Why does the CD I just recorded not show up on my Sonos?
If you have just recorded your CD, there are four steps to ensure that your media

musicm8 has booted.
I am dual encoding my music but I can only see one format in the music
folder?
Your musicm8 gives you the option to Dual Encode to MP3+FLAC or MP3+WAV.
If you choose to Dual Encode, the folders containing each format type are stored
in two different locations. The folder containing FLAC/WAV’s will be located in \\
musicm8\music, and the one containing the MP3’s will be in \\musicm8\shared\
MP3.
