Stopping for Maintenance or Service
CAUTION
Never assume the compressor is ready for maintenance or service
because it is stopped. The automatic stop/start control may start the
compressor at any time!
The following procedure should be followed to maximize safety when
preparing for maintenance or service.
1. Turn compressor drive engine key switch off and remove key from
compressor.
2. Close shut-off valve (block valve) between receiver and compressor, or
receiver and air system, to prevent any back-up of air flow into the area
to be serviced.
3. Disconnect battery connection to compressor drive engine
4. Lock open manual vent valve and wait for the pressure in the area to
be serviced (compressor, receiver, etc.) to be completely relieved
before starting service. The Manual vent valve may be the drain valve in
the receiver. NEVER remove a plug to relieve the pressure.
5. Open all manual drain valves within the area to be serviced.
6. Wait for the unit to cool before starting service, (temperatures at 125
degrees F can burn the skin), some surface temperatures exceed 400
degrees F when the compressor is working).
7. Clean up all oils spills immediately to prevent slipping.
* Note. If the compressor is turned off before being fully unloaded it can
cause the unit to discharge oil into the air filter housing and could cause
the air filter element to become contaminated. This may happen
when using the emergency shut-off button and/or the on/off switch.
Warning:
To avoid personal injury, always turn drive engine key off and
remove from compressor, relive all air pressure from the system, also
disconnect the battery power connections before starting any service
or maintenance on the compressor.
