4.6.4 Install the bearings: Standard version only

1. Inner retaining ring

1. Put the intermediate piece on the work bench.
2. Install the main bearing in the intermediate piece.
Use a rubber mallet, and the SKF B20-52 fitting tool or a tube with the diameters:
– ID = 42 mm (1.65 in)
– OD = 52 mm (2.05 in)
Make sure that the tool pressure is applied on the outer ring.
3. Install the large retaining ring for the main bearing outer ring.
Use pliers.
4. Lubricate the bearing surface of the shaft unit.
5. Install the intermediate piece including main bearing onto the shaft unit.
Use a rubber mallet.
Use the SKF B20-52 fitting tool or a tube with the diameters:
– ID = 20 mm (0.79 in)
– OD = 30 mm (1.18 in)
Make sure that the tool pressure is applied on the inner ring.
6. Install the small retaining ring for the main bearing inner ring.
Use pliers.
7. Install the support bearing onto the shaft unit:
a) Install a tube over the main-bearing end of the shaft.
Tube ID = 24 mm (0.94 in)
b) Install the shaft unit in a screw vice. Tighten the screw vice around the tube.
c) Put a new support bearing onto the other end of the shaft.
d) Tap the bearing in place.
